Introduction to Ballet

Whether you’ve never taken a ballet class before or you’ve danced your whole life, this class has something for you! In this primarily lecture-based class, you will learn about proper posture, positions of the feet and arms, along with basic ballet vocabulary. For those who have never danced before, this class will set you up for success in our subsequent levels. If you have danced but it’s been a while, this is a great refresher! If you want to try ballet but are too intimidated, start here. This is a fun and relaxed environment for learning something new! No dance experience required; all levels welcome.

Ballet Level 1

(Basic)

This class is perfect for beginners or more experienced dancers who want to hone their basic technique. If you have danced but it’s been a while, this class is great for waking up your ballet muscles! If you’re new to the studio, we recommend that you start with this class so our instructors can best recommend a program for you. If you want to try ballet but are too intimidated, this class is great for everyone to learn in a fun, comfortable environment. No dance experience required; all levels welcome.

Ballet Level 2

(Beginning)

This class is perfect for beginners with a basic understanding of ballet technique or more advanced students who wish to focus on technique. The class is structured to include barre and center work that utilizes simple combinations to aid in improving technique.

Ballet Level 3

(Beginning/Intermediate)

This class is geared toward students who have basic ballet training. This class is structured to include barre and center work that utilizes beginning and intermediate combinations to aid in improving technique.

Wear: Comfortable, snug-fitting clothing and ballet slippers.

Ballet Level 4

(Intermediate)

This class is for students who have been regularly attending class and feel comfortable with more advanced combinations. Wear comfortable, snug-fitting clothing; ballet slippers, socks, or bare feet are fine.

Wear: Comfortable, snug-fitting clothing and ballet slippers.

Ballet Level 5

(Pre-Pointe)

This class is for students who aspire to be or are already en pointe. Pointe work is not done in this class; instead, we focus on movements designed to strengthen the feet and legs to get them ready. Wear comfortable, snug-fitting clothing; ballet slippers, socks, or bare feet are fine.

Ballet Level 6

(Beginning Pointe)

This is a 30-minute class that gets students comfortable with pointe basics, including: how to work correctly en pointe, as well as how to properly sew, break in, and care for your pointe shoes. You must have instructor approval before taking this class.

Wear: Comfortable, snug-fitting clothing and pointe shoes.

Progressing Ballet Technique

Don't let the name fool you; this class is for everyone! Progressing Ballet Technique is an innovative program developed for students to understand the depth of training muscle memory in achieving their personal best in classical ballet. It has demonstrated outstanding success in the use of muscle memory to improve students understanding of core stability, weight placement, and alignment.

Wear: Comfortable clothing. Bring: Large exercise/stability ball and a yoga mat.

FAQ/Policies

Reservations

Class reservations can be made up to 14 days prior to the scheduled class, and they close 15 minutes prior to the start of the session. You may reserve your spot online or through the Mindbody app, in person, or by calling the studio; electronic methods are preferred. While you can attend class without making a reservation, we strongly encourage you to notify us of your intent to attend class in advance to avoid class cancellations.

New Clients

Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the start of class to allow adequate time for introduction to the studio, new client paperwork, and instructor meet and greet.

Cancellation

You may cancel up to 60 minutes prior to the start of class. If you fail to cancel with adequate notification, you may be charged a drop-in fee of $17. Clients on Unlimited Membership plans may have 1 day deducted from their billing cycle. We request adherence to this policy out of courtesy to our instructors and to potential waitlist clients.

Late Arrival

We prohibit new clients from entering a class late. Established clients may enter an active class up to, but no more than, 10 minutes late. The purpose of this policy is to ensure the safety of our clients.

Children

Studio BFF is an ADULT ONLY studio. You must be 18 years of age to attend classes except for advertised promotional events that specify otherwise (e.g. Mother’s Day). For the safety of your children and our clients, children may not be left unattended at the studio. Please do not schedule yourself for any classes on days when you are unable to secure child care.

Mat Rental

We offer mat rentals for all clients. Current autopay members can rent a mat at no charge; all others will be charged a $3 fee. Fee includes sterilization of the mat by the studio.

Communication

Clients are responsible for communicating any changes in health, long-term or short-term physical limitations, as well as any other pertinent information that may affect full participation in class or lead to more serious injury.

Enviroment

Studio BFF is a smoke, alcohol, and drug free environment. If you have concerns related to inappropriate activities, please see a member of the management team.
